The legendary encounter between Chomsky and Richard Perle, the Prince of Darkness. For years there were rumors that a tape of their 1988 debate at Ohio State University in Columbus existed. Finally, it was Edward Herman who tracked it down. It was worth the wait. Rarely do establishment figures take on Chomsky in a debate format. After listening to this you'll understand why. The MIT professor runs circles around Perle. Chomsky sticks to the facts and the documentary record while Perle spews out platitudes and fantasies about US intentions. The focus is on US policy in the Middle East and Latin America. But it extends to a look at US post-WWII plans for global domination- the Grand Area Strategy. Chomsky on the latter is indispensable. Perle, it should be pointed out is one of the key figures behind the Bush II bellicose foreign policy and the attack on Iraq. AR is proud to make this historic program available. The audio, while not excellent, is quite good. Everything is intelligible.

Noam Chomsky
Noam Chomsky, internationally renowned MIT professor, practically invented modern linguistics. In addition to his pioneering work in that field he has been a leading voice for peace and social justice for many decades. He is in huge demand as a public speaker all over world. "The New Statesman" calls him, "The conscience of the American people." The New York Times says he's "a global phenomenon, perhaps the most widely read voice on foreign policy on the planet." Author of scores of books, his latest are "The Essential Chomsky" and "What We Say Goes."
