American Jews & Israel

Program #CHEI001. Recorded in Boulder, CO on November 12, 1997.

The American Jewish community's relationship to Israel can perhaps be characterized by devotion and great pride in Israel's impressive accomplishments. But there is also some ambivalence. In late November, NPR reported that current Israeli policies were generating growing anger among American Jews. In particular, U.S. Jews are vexed by an Orthodox resurgence in Israel seeking to define who is a Jew on its terms. November 12, 1997.
