Mumia Abu-Jamal (Moo-mee-a Aboo Jamaal) is the most well known death row inmate. In 1982 he was sentenced to death for the murder of a Philadelphia policeman. Numerous efforts, based on new and suppressed evidence, to secure Abu-Jamal a new trial have thus far failed. His case has sparked demonstrations and the formation of support groups throughout the world.

Mumia Abu-Jamal is an award-winning journalist and radio reporter. He was President of the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists.
