Nawal El Saadawi
Nawal El Saadawi is one of Egypt's best-known dissidents and one of the Arab world's most famous feminists. She studied at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Cairo. She is founder of the Arab Women's Solidarity Association. In addition to her political work she is a major novelist. The Fall of the Imam was widely acclaimed. Her latest novel is The Innocence of the Devil. Her most recent political book is Memoirs from the Women's Prison. A target of death threats in Egypt, she now teaches at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Her latest book is The Nawal El Saadawi Reader.
