JFK Assassination: Gangster Nature of the State
Program #PARM033. Recorded in Berkeley, CA on November 22, 1993.
Recorded on the 30th anniversary of the JFK assassination this is a fiery talk given by a great orator. In his unique style, Michael Parenti gives a detailed account of the inconsistencies in the official story about Lee Harvey Oswald as the lone gunman. He challenges and sharply differs with Noam Chomsky, Alexander Cockburn and the Progressive and Nation magazines who all argue against any conspiracy. He talks about the deep national security state. “Conspiracy,” he declares, “is not something in contradistinction to structural analysis it is part of it.” He adds, “The gangster nature of the state is cloaked by a democratic façade,” though “some victories have been won, the state goes on.” Prophetically, Parenti says, “with NAFTA we now see the Thirdworldization of the U.S. will continue full speed ahead.” Note: NAFTA went into effect on Jan 1, 1994, six weeks after this talk.
