Killer High: A History of War in Six Drugs
Killer High: A History of War in Six Drugs examines both legal and illegal drugs in relation to warfare. Andreas demonstrates that the drugs-war relationship goes back not just decades but centuries, and in particular how alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, opium, speed and cocaine shaped wars from the imperial conquests of Alexander the Great to the function of counterinsurgency in Colombia and Afghanistan today.
Peter Andreas is the John Hay Professor of International Studies at Brown University. Andreas is the author of ten books, including Smuggler Nation: How Illicit Trade Made America and Killer High: A History of War in Six Drugs. His articles appear in publications ranging from Foreign Affairs to The Nation.
