
Robert Jay Lifton
Robert Jay Lifton was distinguished professor emeritus of John Jay College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. He also taught at Harvard and Yale. His book Death in Life: Survivors of Hiroshima won the National Book Award. He is also the author of The Nazi Doctors, The Climate Swerve, Superpower Syndrome, and Surviving Our Catastrophes. He wrote in his memoir Witness to an Extreme Century, “What we choose to study as scholars is a reflection of our advocacies, our passions, spoken or otherwise.” He died in 2025.
