Yevgeny Yevtushenko
Yevgeny Yevtushenko was among the first Russian poets to print official verse against Stalinism, antisemitism, and establishment bureaucracy. His poems “Babi Yar” and “Fuku” represented victorious publicly skirmishes in the war against censorship. Yevtushenko was also a novelist, essayist, dramatist, screenwriter, actor, and editor, and a director of several films. He passed away in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2017.
