Debate with Keith Maskus on NAFTA

NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement, is a pact between the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Negotiated by the Bush, Mulroney and Salinas administrations, NAFTA if approved, will reduce tariffs and other trade barriers and modify investment rules. NAFTA supporters contend that itwill create new jobs and stimulate economic growth in all three countries, as well as improving environmental regulations in Mexico. NAFTA opponents argue that it will degrade environmental standards, lead to job loss and lower wages, and concentrate power in corporate hands.
