Matthiessen walks us through his adventures in non-fiction: from early writing for The New Yorker, and the daring act of writing Far Tortuga, through the investigative work on the case of Leonard Peltier resulting in the book Crazy Horse. Peter Matthiessen spoke at the Novel in the Americas Conference held at the University of Colorado.
Peter Matthiessen was an American author who led a subgenre of outdoor adventure writing by covering unexplored territories, wildlife, and native peoples. A former editor at The Paris Review, he is best known for his novels, The Snow Leopard, Far Tortuga, At Play in Fields of the Lord, Killing Mr. Watson, Bone by Bone and In the Spirit of Crazy Horse. Matthiessen passed away in 2014.
