Malcolm X, born Malcolm Little, also known as El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, was one of the most important African Americans in history. He was a courageous advocate for the rights of Blacks. A spell-binding orator he indicted white America in the harshest terms for its crimes against Blacks. He founded the Organization of Afro-American Unity. On February 21, 1965, after repudiating the Nation of Islam and its founder Elijah Muhammad, he was assassinated in New York’s Audubon Ballroom. The Autobiography of Malcolm X, published after his death, is one of the most influential nonfiction books of the 20th century.
