Ghazal: Urdu Poetry
Recorded at a mehfil, a house concert where everyone takes their shoes off and sits on pillows and carpets. The informal atmosphere is quite different from a concert hall. In this recording, Hafeez Ahmed Khan sings classic ghazals, Urdu love poems. This mehfil features the poetry of some of Urdu’s greatest poets including Ghalib, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Jigar, and Josh. The knowledgeable audience responds with requests and comments, and expresses its praise and appreciation with “vah vah.” A rare musical evening. K. Paramjoti provides accompaniment on the tabla.

I cannot thank you enough for making this available. I learn khyal from Ustad Maqbool Hussain Khan (Ustad Mushtaq Hussain Khan’s grandson) and have been scouring the internet for all recorded trace of the illustrious Ustad Hafeez Ahmed Khan Sahib.
I will make a present of this to my Guruji, and I cannot wait for his reaction. Thank you thank you.
