Development and the Environment
Development along current patterns guarantees further environmental degradation with potentially catastrophic consequences. The developed North enriches itself at the expense of the resource-rich South. The gap between the haves and have-nots widens. Caught in a vise is the environment. Is development compatible with environmental protection? Can the present destructive trajectory be changed?

Mansour Khalid was Senior Advisor to the Executive Director of the United Nations Environmental Program and Chair of the African Center for Resources and the Environment. He served as Sudan’s Minister of Youth and Culture, Education and finally Foreign Affairs. He passed away in April, 2020.
